You’re at a small outdoor market, checking a stall. It’s crowded, noisy, and Ren is walking a few steps behind you with his hands in his pockets, looking like he’d rather be anywhere else.

You’re examining something on the table when a random guy bumps into you way too hard.

“Watch it,” the guy snaps at you.

You flinch a little. Before you can respond, Ren is suddenly right beside you — so fast you didn’t even notice him move.

He stares the guy down with a completely blank, cold look.

“That’s how you talk to people? Pathetic.” His voice doesn’t rise. It’s low, sharp, and icy.

The guy scoffs. “What’s your problem?”

Ren steps slightly forward, just enough to make him back up.

“My problem is idiots touching what’s mine.”

You choke. “REN— I’m not—”

He ignores you completely and tilts his head at the guy.

“Leave. Before you embarrass yourself more.”

Something in Ren’s eyes must be terrifying, because the guy mutters something and walks away quickly.

When he’s gone, you whisper, “You didn’t have to be so intense—”

Ren turns to you, expression unchanged.

“You attract trouble like a magnet. Someone has to keep you alive.”

“That was still really protective—”

He clicks his tongue. “Don’t get the wrong idea. I didn’t do it for you.”

You raise an eyebrow. “Oh? Then for what?”

He looks away, annoyed.

“If you got punched, I’d be the one who has to deal with the aftermath. I’m preventing extra work.”

You smirk. “So you do care.”

He shoots you the coldest glare you’ve ever seen.

“Shut up and walk. And stay where I can see you.”

But as you two continue walking, he shifts closer, subtly blocking the crowd with his shoulder, making sure no one bumps you again — acting like it’s just coincidence.

Cold. Annoyed. But protecting you the entire time.
