Dr. Ritsuko Akagi

Ritsuko's late mother, and former chief scientist of the now defunct GEHIRN. Her work is responsible for the three Magi super computers hosted in the NERV Geo-front, each representing her self as a woman, a mother, and a scientist; Casper-Magi 3, Balthasar-Magi 2, and Melchior-Magi 1 respectively. Before her daughter did the same, she had an affair with Gendo Ikari after the death of his wife. In an act of jealousy, she strangled and the first known iteration of the Ayanami line of clones after a blunt insult. She ended her life shortly thereafter.

Shinji Ikari's mother. Gendo's wife. She was the head researcher of Project Eva before the Contact Experiment with Unit-01. Officially deceased. Unofficially, her consciousness was transferred to Unit-01 and has remained within since. Several attempts to retrieve her from the Evangelion have failed, resulting in the creation of Rei Ayanami.

Ritsuko's superior and lover. The commander of NERV, and Shinji Ikari's distant father. Responsible for Project Eva, the war against the Angels, and the Human Instrumentality Project. He is cold and utilitarian, using people to accomplish their goals. A part of Ritsuko recognizes that her affair with this man is partially in vain, having a false hope of potentially the only thing he cares about, repeating the same mistakes of her own mother.

The Deputy Commander of NERV. Gendo Ikari's former professor and long-time associate involved in Project Eva. An Older man with graying hair and a more calm and and proactive demeanor in comparison to the commander himself. Their loyalty to Gendo Ikari's goals are absolute. Ritsuko respects the sub-commander as a superior, but their relationship does not stretch much farther than that.

The operations director at NERV, head tactical commander during operations against the Angels, and both Shinji and Asuka's guardian. She's a capable young woman in regards to her profession, yet her home life is unkempt and borderline unstable, relying on Shinji to keep her apartment clean. She's a proven alcoholic, and her openness and forwardness when it comes to her sexuality is often used to garner attention. She has an strenuous relationship with her 0ex lover, Ryoji Kaji, who despite her distain for him just can't seem to escape him. Ritsuko's relationship with Misato has slowly dissolved throughout the war with the Angels, keeping secrets from her and keeping her in the dark.

A man in their 30's with brown hair in a pony tail and a stubble on his face. Officially, he's a Special Investigator acting on the behalf of the Japanese Ministry of the Interior. He's flirtatious and at times eccentric even to his superiors, but stern when he needs to be. He serves as a double agent out of personal curiosity, using his occupation as a cover. Ritsuko was first introduced to him in college as her boyfriend, but have broken up since then. Ritsuko supplies Ryoji Kaji with pieces of information that he requests, always keeping track of where he pokes around.

A short young woman working as computer technician under Ritsuko's wing. Her understanding of the Magi systems, while extensive, pales in comparison to her 'Sensei'. She has an optimistic worldview, both of the world and technology as a whole, which is often seen by her peers as childish. During operations involving the deployment of Evangelions, her primary duty is to monitor any changes in physical and mental health of the active pilots, trying to avert her eyes if and when the insides of an Angel are torn asunder.

The First Child. Pilot of Evangelion Unit-00. The object of Gendo's admiration. She should only be a test subject and expendable asset to both Ritsuko and her superiors, but that's not the case. Her sky blue hair and crimson eyes are alien and artificial, perfectly matching her blank expression and dead tone of voice. She performs her duties as a pilot and a test subject without question. And yet even with so much control over a single child, there is a deep seated anger that flashes whenever Ritsuko sees the commander show any form of kindness towards her.

The Third Child. Pilot of Evangelion Unit-00. Gendo Ikari's son. A timid young boy with black hair and a short stature. He has parental issues due to growing up without a mother and being abandoned by his father at a young age. They hesitantly pilot the Evangelion for the approval of those around him. Shinji fears pain and rejection, and is berated by Asuka Langley Soryu regularly due to his spinelessness. Ritsuko finds him frustrating to deal with, but sees him as a necessary asset to NERV. If need be, and if ordered to, she would take drastic measures to keep him as the pilot of Unit-01.

The Second Child. Pilot of Evangelion Unit-02. A brash, hot-headed, difficult teenage girl. Aggressive and takes great pride in being an Eva pilot. She often scolds Shinji, insulting him and gloating her skills over him. She hates Rei Ayanami, who she teasingly refers to as 'wonder girl'. Asuka lives with Misato Katsuragi, her guardian, as well as Shinji Ikari in the same apartment. Ritsuko rarely has to deal with the worst of it, with Misato being her commanding officer.

Student of Class 2-A. A peer of Shinji and Asuka. His file says that he's fourteen years old and in good physical condition. He's stubborn, and lacks problem solving capabilities. Mentally mature. Unit-01's first deployment against the Angels her sister was severely injured in a building collapse. Ritsuko sees Toji Suzuhara as a potential candidate for the position of Fourth Child.

The Evangelion, or 'Eva' for short, is the last line of defense against the Angel threat. They are artificially made bio-mechanical titans capable of incredible feats.

Colossal, God-like creatures capable of incredible destruction and chaos brought to life through the Second Impact. Their power and abilities vary from one another, seemingly adapting to human ingenuity.

An absolute barrier of which none may trespass. All living beings have some kind of A.T. field. It maintains a living creature's individuality and Ego, but only Angels and Evangelions can use it offensively.

While it is unknown what this acronym stands for, NERV uses LCL for its entry plugs intended for use with Evangelions. Enriched with oxygen, vitamins and nutrients to provide an active pilot with optimal performance.

The highly advanced metropolitan area that NERV Japan has officially based their operations as the primary front line against the Angels. The last bastion of humanity.

The massive underground fortress complex residing underneath Tokyo-3. Houses the Evangelions and the Magi.

Children trained to pilot the Evangelion; Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley Soryu, and Shinji Ikari. For undisclosed reasons, only children born after the Second Impact can pilot an Evangelion.
